November is an incredible month for startup founders and entrepreneurs around the world. It's highlighted by two major events: Global Entrepreneurship Week and Web Summit, two of the largest startup networking opportunities available. We’ve also really enjoyed our involvement with Slush'd events this year, including a successful Canopy Demo Night in Cornwall, and we’re looking at Helsinki for next year.
At Canopy, with our Lisbon roots, Web Summit week is the pinnacle of the year. We curate several of our own startup events while attending many others that focus on building the startup ecosystem and fostering entrepreneur networks.
This year, we’re hosting three key events during Web Summit week:
- Monday, November 11th, 10am to 4pm: Investment Readiness Mini-Accelerator Program
- Monday, November 11th, 6pm to 9pm: Canopy Community Party
- Wednesday, November 13th, 7pm to 9pm: Demo Night, Web Summit Week Edition (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/demonightlx-web-summit-week-edition-2024-tickets-772372505957)
What makes Web Summit so significant for our entrepreneur community is that it’s a time when founders from Lisbon, London, Boston, Bangalore, Taiwan, and across Portugal come together. For many, this will be the first time meeting in person after collaborating online within our startup founder platform.
Our mission for 2024/2025, kicking off at Web Summit, is to "Inspire a new generation of Entrepreneurs in Portugal." We take our own inspiration from the late João Vasconcelos, a key figure in bringing Web Summit to Portugal in 2016. With Web Summit’s current agreement to remain in Portugal until 2028, we are motivated to harness this spotlight and bring focus on nurturing young entrepreneurs in our startup ecosystem. We believe in cultivating entrepreneurial DNA early through structured education and hands-on learning for a life time of creating opportunity and following dreams. As AI further disrupts what we do and how we do it, the entrepreneurial resilience will be more needed than ever.
At Canopy, we believe diversity is strength. We thrive by being open, inclusive, and supportive, and Web Summit week showcases this more than ever. For me, that’s the energy that drives us forward.
