What makes Startup Summer different from other startup programmes?

Most startup programmes focus on teaching entrepreneurship.

Startup Summer is designed to help you do entrepreneurship.

Every week you'll complete practical activities that move your idea forward. By the end of six weeks you'll have created tangible outputs including:

  • A validated customer profile

  • Customer interview insights

  • Founder skills audit

  • MVP testing plan

  • Four-slide investor story

  • 90-day action plan

Rather than simply learning theory, you'll leave with real work completed.

The programme is also designed to fit around real life. All learning content is asynchronous, allowing you to study whenever suits you, while weekly live sessions, peer support and on-demand mentoring provide accountability without rigid schedules.

Who is the programme for?

Anyone aged 18+ with an interest in entrepreneurship.

You do not need:

  • Startup experience

  • A technical background

  • A business degree

  • Investment

  • A co-founder

The programme welcomes founders from anywhere in the world.

In fact, it was intentionally designed around the reality of busy lives—including working parents balancing careers, family and holidays during the summer.

Do I need a business idea before I join?

No.

One of the first exercises helps you identify opportunities by looking for problems and frustrations in your own life.

Many successful businesses begin by solving a problem you've experienced yourself before helping others with the same challenge.

If you already have an idea, we'll help validate it.

If you don't, we'll help you discover one.

How do I know if my idea is actually any good?

Rather than relying on assumptions, you'll learn how to speak with potential customers.

Throughout the programme you'll use design thinking to test three critical questions:

  • Is the idea desirable?

  • Is it feasible?

  • Is it commercially viable?

Customer interviews and structured feedback replace guesswork with evidence, helping you decide whether to continue developing your idea—or pivot towards something stronger.

Both outcomes are valuable.

What habits separate successful founders?

Persistence.

The founders who make progress aren't necessarily the smartest or the most experienced.

They're the people who keep learning.

Every customer conversation, prototype and failed experiment provides information that improves the next version of the idea.

Startup Summer is designed to help founders build that mindset while being surrounded by peers and mentors who understand the journey.

What does success look like by the end of six weeks?

Success means leaving the programme knowing what to do next.

For some founders, that means validating an exciting opportunity.

For others, it means discovering an idea isn't worth pursuing—saving months or even years of effort.

The strongest teams will also have the opportunity to present at Canopy Community's global Demo Night showcase in front of experienced founders and investors.

What happens each week?

Each Monday new content is released.

You'll work through practical lessons before completing one focused task for the week.

Every Friday the cohort comes together to review progress, ask questions and learn from one another.

Alongside this you'll have access to:

  • Peer accountability

  • Community discussion

  • On-demand mentoring with 17 experienced founders and experts across the UK, Portugal, India and the USA

  • A global founder community of nearly 1,000 entrepreneurs

What if I fall behind?

Life happens.

That's why the programme stays open for 66 days, even though the structured journey lasts six weeks.

Weekly sessions are recorded, transcripts are available afterwards and your peer buddy, mentors and community remain available to help you catch up.

The programme is designed to be flexible—not stressful.

What support is available?

Support comes through three connected pillars:

Content – expert-led learning you can complete whenever suits you.

Peer Support – accountability partners, founder discussions and cohort collaboration.

Expert Support – book mentoring sessions directly with experienced founders, operators and specialists whenever you need guidance.

This combination means you're never building alone.

What if I fail?

Failure is part of entrepreneurship.

That's why we've created a safe environment where experimentation is encouraged.

Instead of trying to avoid failure altogether, Startup Summer helps founders fail faster, learn quicker and make better decisions before investing significant time or money.

Many experienced founders—including our mentors—have experienced failed ventures before building successful businesses.

Learning from those experiences is one of the programme's greatest strengths.

What are you looking for in applicants?

One thing.

Commitment.

We don't mind your age, background, degree, location or experience.

We simply want founders who genuinely want to build something.

If you're prepared to put in the work, we'll match that commitment with practical support, mentoring and an incredible community.
